BLOGGING JEWISH IN DUTCHESS

Being the Executive Director of the Jewish Federation is weird...whenever I am in a non Jewish gathering and introduce myself and mention my job, there are at least some of those at the meeting who start calling me “Rabbi”. It is also strange when people talk to me about “your congregation” or automatically assume I'm part of another organization. This assumption is normally punctuated by some questions such as “so you work for the JCC?”. Or “So you are with such and such Rabbi?”. All these misconceptions go back to the same problem: the inability to conceive more than one way of being Jewish. Yet that diversity is reminded to us constantly in our tradition.
