BLOGGING JEWISH IN DUTCHESS
In recent days, much has been said about the political disagreements between Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) and his Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, the western-educated economist who doubles as Minister of Finances. In the wake of these comments, came the news that Fayyad had presented his resignation to Abu Mazen, and a day later he withdrew it under Western pressure. What is going on here?
It would be impossible to understand the situation without looking at who the players are and how they came to be in power, or without including Haniyeh and his Hamas faction as part of the equation. Let us start with Haniyeh.
