For centuries, the word "Jew" was taken in western culture as a synonym of "pariah". Being a Jew was being an outcast and being a scapegoat. Even in today's world, the Jewish State has become the scapegoat of a world gone crazy.
But probably the most incredible situation happened recently at Brandeis University, a University considered by many in the Jewish community to be a "Jewish" University, founded and funded by Jews and named after a famous American Jew. The University President invited Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren as a commencement speaker, and students started a campaign to force the President to un invite him! Oren's crime? He served in the Israeli military and he is an official representative of Israel. This brings echoes of some years ago in Montreal where after Arafat was given a forum, Netanyahu was uninvited because "he was controversial"! That situation, however, happened in a secular University with little or no specific connection to the Jewish community in Canada. The Oren incident, by contrast, is happening at Brandeis!
But you can help...there is an online campaign to support Brandeis' President choice of Michael Oren and silence those who believe that whoever disagrees with them has no right to free speech. Follow the link:
